I am stuck on vs 1.6.1 and failed to update

What is the problem?

I run Octoprint version 1.6.1 on Octopi 0.17.0 on a Raspberry Pi 4 Bvs.1.2. so far it did work well and being rather busy and away from the printer, I missed a number of updates. I tried to do so now, but failed.
This is the error message I got:

ERROR: Command errored out with exit status1: /home/pi/oprint/bin/python2/home/pi/oprint/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/pip/_vendor/pep517/_in_process.py get_requires_for_build_wheel /tmp/tmpk4Rsx4 Check the logs for full command output.

What did you already try to solve it?

I disabled 3rd party plugins, I looked for answers in the forum, I tried the solution suggested for update from 1.6.1 to 1.7.3

Have you tried running in safe mode?

Yes

Did running in safe mode solve the problem?

I restarted in safe mode but ended up with the same result

I assume I can always start allover with a new image on the SD card, but was hoping there is a way to save me the time doing that.

Thank you for all the effort and support.

Michael

I just realized that what I saw was only the last part of the log, displaying an error.

the message I got about the failed update was:

Aktualisierung fehlgeschlagen!

Hi there

I'm linking a post that should answer your question

If I were you, I would backup my instance via the restore and backup feature, flash the latest image and start over with an up to date version

Thank you very much for the quick response!
Even though I was hoping to avoid that, I think it might be the best solution providing a clean new beginning.
I will use the holidays for a new start with Python 3.

Grateful for the advice!

Michael
