Cant connect to OctoPrint from ender3 v2 all of a sudden

What is the problem?

I was connected and doing a print but when it finished it got stuck on 99% even though the print was complete. I had to reboot the system and since then I can not connect. I am also very new to the forum so if I left important things out I apologize I will try and post whatever you need.

What did you already try to solve it?

new cables
safe mode
take out sd card
reboot everything a bunch of times
try connecting on auto and manually

Have you tried running in safe mode?

yes

Did running in safe mode solve the problem?

I wish

Hello,

you may have interference on your cables.

Is there a refrigerator or an AC nearby? Where did you put the cable to the display? Try if things change once you changed that cable's way.

I was led to believe the garbage it gives out was because it was using the wrong baud rate. My cable runs under the drawer and out the panel on the bottom. I moved it around a bit but nothing changed. I am pretty sure I need to be using the 25000 baud rate so I will include the terminal output from that because it is a little different. I am not sure how much use it will be because it just times out. I have increased my timeout times and still nothing.

Connecting to port /dev/ttyUSB0, baudrate 250000

Not entirely sure what happened but I originally tested in safemode when I tested the cable theory and it didn't work. I rebooted and tried not in safemode and I got in. I went to go get the bed ready to print and when I came back I lost it. So something seems very touchy. It connected on 115200 but when I try to connect on it again I get a similar message as above.

Not sure if setting the baud rate up is the best course of action when you already have connection problems, I'd rather try the lower one. Octoprint has a list of Baud rates it supports under Settings/Serial.

The baud rate must match what the firmware is sending out, commonly used is 115200. For Marlin, you must re-flash the printer to change the default baud rate, or there is a optional gcode command that can be used (but I think it has to be enabled first)

The connection attempt to 57600 is more than likely going to produce noise because it is not right, in this case 115200 is correct.

I have gotten it to connect a couple times in a few hours. It seems to work for some time and then drop the connection and wont connect again. It shows up in the ports so it is able to see the printer. I am not super knowledgeable in how everything really fits together. What would cause interference between the printer and octoprint if I can see octoprint can see the printer?

@Charlie_Powell. Sorry to drag you back into this, but I have some new information. I ran dmesg and saw these lines:

[ 3511.716552] ch341-uart ttyUSB0: ch341-uart converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
[ 3511.716674] ch341 1-1.2:1.0: device disconnected
[ 3560.199128] usb usb2-port1: over-current change #1
[ 3560.434232] usb usb2-port2: over-current change #1

I looked around and saw that taping the 5V pin on the usb can fix that. I did that and now the screen doesn't light up when I plug it in, I think that's a good thing. as far as connection, I seem to be in a similar place. It was working Friday and I was gone for the weekend and it randomly disconnected while I was gone and I can not get it to reconnect. Do you think the raspberry pie is fried? This doesn't seem to be the case as I was connected previously after having these same issues. I will go ahead and post the whole dmesg output incase that is any use. Again I apologize if you were over this issue but I feel like I am getting close and could really use someone with a lot more knowledge than myself. Thanks again!

I don't really know what's going on there unfortunately. I've had a think, but aside from the obvious that the printer is drawing too much power I'm not sure what I would do.

Googling about, I found some things that pointed to the hardware on the board, but also that it could be the power supply in to the Pi. Does the same message come through with nothing connected to the USB ports? Does the printer connect reliably on the 'other' USB ports, in a different stack? I can't remember if they are all wired together or not.

Among the ideas I saw WRT power-in was: try to supply your raspi from a power bank. Not for ever, just long enough to test whether the issue persists.
And: 'turn around' your power supply as in: turn out the plug, 180° turn around the z-axis, plug in again (Obviously works only with something like EU plugs that go in both ways)

@Charlie_Powell @planetar thank you both for the responses. I did get it connected, however, again, I didn't really fix anything. The tape maybe did end up working but I wouldn’t be surprised if the problem persists. For right now I'm too scared to fix something that “isn’t” broken. I’ll update this thread if something changes. Thanks again.
