Kernel issue - not mount VFS

While doing install of image when booting receive a kernel error:
end kernel panic NOT SYNCING : VFS: unable to mount root FS on unkown block (179,2).

Any ideas appreciated to help get working.

That's a strong sign your SD card is bad or your copying (eg with Etcher) went wrong.

Yet another case of people over-thinking this.

  1. Use Etcher to install the zip file you downloaded to the microSD
  2. Configure your WiFi by editing octopi-wpa-supplicant.txt on the root of the flashed card when using it like a thumb drive
  3. Boot the Pi from the card

Sd was incorrectly formatted. Started fresh, all good. Thanks

Yes, you need no formating at all...

You were formatting and then etching? Or etching, then Windows complained and so you formatted?
