I have posted a PSA here:
As mentioned, I hope some of that can be added to the Wiki, which I seemingly don't have the ability to do as a new user.
However the documentation for OctoPi here:
is wrong, or at best out of date.
To understand why you would need to read my above my post, but the short of it is that using the primary method of the Imager will cause problems for some users because the Imager (1.8.5) fails to set the WiFi Country properly.
The " Alternative Initial Setup" instructions can also be dangerous because of their discussion of the octopi-wpa-supplicant.txt
file. If the users decided to use Imager and applied the Advanced Customization, or at some point used raspi-config
to try an fix their configuration, then modifying this file is useless. The truth is the majority of users will be using Imager and as the latest version prompts you to edit and apply the customizations (i.e. you don't need to actually to Ctrl+Shift+X), I expect that octopi-wpa-supplicant.txt
will be broken for most users.
I've already struggled through it following these (as is detailed in my post). So I don't have any skin left in the game. I'm hoping however that you all can make it easier for the next person by calling out these issues in a more straightforward way.
Thank you.
