just upgraded to 1.4.1, python 2.7.16, octopi 0.17.0
upgrade went smoothly
and octoprint now connects more consistently to my Ender-3

Thank you for positive feedback for once 
I woke up to a whole bunch of "it doesn't work!!1!" without logs again (the biggest issue so far appears to be caused by a third party plugin that's now blacklisted).
