BCN3D Sigmax Printer, connecting but not communicating to Octopi

Good day lovely people!

Printer- BCN3D Sigmax R19
Printer firmware- 02-2.0.6
Octoprint version: 1.3.10
Octopi version: Version 0.16.0, running on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2

What is the problem?

  1. The Octopi can connect to the Sigmax printer. States printer is "operational".
  2. The Sigmax will reboot when the Octopi connects, this is normal and will do this if you connect via USB to windows computer.
  3. The sigmax will display "Serial Print Job".
  4. Using Octoprint interface on Chrome,
  • No temperature data, or feedback comes back to the Octopi
  • Prints can be loaded, and activated to print, but nothing happens thereafter.
  • No manual movement or temperature adjustments do anything on the Sigmax.

What did you already try to solve it?

  • Tried different USB cables, different power adapters.
  • Double checked my setup process matched the "Setting up OctoPi" resource on the Octoprint.org site.
  • Tested in safe mode.

Additional information about your setup

Octoprint.log, and Serial.log below, screen shot attached.

Thank you to you all!

Hello @Jamie,

try angain without a SD card in the printer.

Hi @Ewald_Ikemann,
Great thought, and that has immediately made a difference. Temperatures are logging. I was unable to test a print and will try tomorrow.
The controls seemed very laggy, but I will report back tomorrow.

Removing the SD card has enabled control and communication to the printer.

Trying to put the SD card back in after Octopi is connected stops connection once more.

On a side note, I have noticed that running a "mirror" print on the Sigmax through Octoprint, it ignored the "Mirror" command. (Anyone unfamiliar with what I am talking about, it refers to a function available on IDEX type printers). I haven't tried "duplication" mode yet, but would assume this will also be the case. If anyone is interested in looking at this, I will start a different post and up the G-code.

Cheers @Ewald_Ikemann!

It looks like your SD card has a variety of (normally) hidden files/folders on it which are getting iterated through upon starting the printer connection.

It's clear from the squashed 8.3 file naming and ALLCAPS that these are long filenames which are being reverted to short filenames. I've suggested before that there could be bugs within these attempts but others have indicated that they believe that it's fine. And yet, here you are—yet another user—who has an SD card which can't be read.

It could be a corrupted file index on the SD card. This is certainly a possibility. It's possible that putting the card into a Windows computer and then doing a chkdsk might help or hurt it (you never know with Windows). /obviouslybiasedresponse

Yeah, I think I trust Windows on these kinds of things as much as you do!
The SD card came with the machine, with some pre-loaded models, guides, manuals, warranty information. I have kept that directory the same, and then added my own print folder for day-to-day stuff.

I suppose there is a chance that it was corrupted when I have removed it and inserted it into my PC to load files onto it.

I'll try formatting the SD in a 'clean' way and removing multiple sub-directories and see if this helps.

In truth, it doesn't matter too much if this card remains out of the machine, as I have storage available off the pi.

Cheers,
Jamie

At least make a backup of it with something before you reformat it. Also, look at the partition type(s) on it. It could be FAT, FAT32 or almost anything else. For your controller board to be happy, it will likely need to be the same.
