Where are the upgrade instructions, and where can I see what version I have installed?

Version is displayed at the very bottom of every page of the UI.
OctoPrint 1.10.2 Python 3.9.2
To update, Settings(the wrench)->OctoPrint->Software Update.

Unless if you installed in Windows. The Windows installer includes an option in the start menu to upgrade all instances of OctoPrint that are installed.

Thanks- All the feedback is greatly appreciated. Apparently my issues were with a bad SD card, so I simply reinstalled Octoprint on a new SD card and all works well again.
