Is there a more steamlined way to get raspberry pi camera working?

So looking up how to get the camera module up and running the steps involve setting environment variable, cloning and building github projects and so on. Considering a lot of these are a couple years old. Is there a more stream lined way of getting the camera up and running?

AFAIK, if you start with the OctoPi image, you are good to go out of the box.
