Just installed octopi

What is the problem?
just installed octopi newest version on raspberry pi 3 b+...followed the directions and got it ready ..booted and then tired to set up with http://octopi.local..thats where I got stuck

What did you already try to solve it?
i hooked up the pi to the tv to see the ip address ..but i notice my pi host name is a bunch of letters and numbers and also the ip address ..not like what i see with others (videos from youtube) just a few numbers so i also tried it with that long mix of numbers and still couldn't get to the set up page

So it sounds like your wifi router issued an IPv6 address to the Pi (and likely also an IPv4). If you did want to try connecting to your Pi instance using its IPv6 address note that it has colons in it. Since this would confuse the standard browser (a colon is used to separate the port address) then it's necessary to surround that address with square brackets.

Or it's possible that you were confused when you were looking at the output on the TV. In a case like this, I'll log into the wifi router and look at what devices are connected. Then scan down to find the octopi as a hostname.

I got it to work ....it works fine...since I connect to the wifi...is it open to the internet or am I safe...i changed my password just like it was stated

It's not inherently open to the Internet unless you went into your router and did something interesting. If this is a school/college venue then you could also turn on the User Access to make people log into the web interface.
