No plugins work

running a x86 octoprint server. (ender 3, atom netbook, lubuntu 18.04, followed pip install on octopi website version 1.40 )
plugins don't work for me. ive tried various plugins and once there installed they stay greyed out, even if i restart octoprint from the browser.

would the pi version be better in terms of things working / set up better (things like webcam streaming and remote printing from anywhere). bought one waiting on cable for it.

I assume you mean OctoPrint 1.4.0?
