Octoprint server not running and will not start

Hello all, experiencing an issue that is new to me. Thought I would check here before I rebuild my server.

What is the problem?

I can SSH into Pi but when I attempt to visit octopi.local in a browser I see " The OctoPrint server is currently not running." System was running, I manually started a print from the printer's interface while Octopi was connected via USB, but not actually "connected" in the Octoprint web interface. When the short print (bed level check) was done I logged into Octoprint and, since it had been several weeks since I've used it, decided I would reboot. After reboot I can still use SSH but the Octoprint server is not running, and will not start.

What did you already try to solve it?
I tried ps -ef | grep -i octoprint | grep -i python but there is no response, SSH (via Putty) prints a carriage return.

I've looked at ~/.octoprint/logs/octoprint.log and can see error messages, but not sure what would be causing them.

I've tried to restart the service several times with sudo service octoprint restart, but the terminal prints a carriage return within 1 second and nothing seems to happen.

I've tried to start the server in safe mode using both the command line method, as well as adding startOnceInSafeMode: true to the server block of config.yaml, but neither were successful.

Logs (octoprint.log, serial.log or output on terminal tab at a minimum, browser error console if UI issue ... no logs, no support!)

Printer is a Creality Ender 3 Pro, been using this Octoprint setup on the same Pi for at least five months, and have recently used extensively to print COVID-19 supplies.

Printer firmware is Creality v1.1.6.2.

I've tried connecting on two different Win10 64-bit machines with latest Chrome browsers, and also tried with Microsoft Edge browser on one. Additionally, I've tried connecting with OctoRemote, which has never had an issue before, but it does not succeed.

If it were me, I'd take a good look at the formatting of the ~/.octoprint/config.yaml file to make sure that the prefixing whitespace is correct.

Indeed. Include it here. Redact the key, the salt and the UUID. If you see anything in there that looks like it's your personal information, redact that as well.

Just use the </> symbol above to format it exactly as it appears in the file.

Okay, so Octoslack totally screwed up the formatting of your config.yaml file and is the likeliest reason why it won't start now.

Everywhere you see something like:

        VariableName: '

            '

...remove the extra hard returns so that it looks like:

        VariableName: '0'

Thanks Guru. I've updated ~/.octoprint/config.yaml, rebooted, and manually stopped/started the OctoPrint service, but no luck. I'm not sure if there are other whitespace issues in config.yaml as I'm not familiar with how it typically looks.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary clutter from the MyMiniFactory plugin.

Could there be something else causing the serial port error mssgs shown in Octoprint.log?

The status seems to suggest that it's running. You might try http://octopi.local:5000/ to see if that works.

That's what I though also but no luck. I get the "OctoPrint server not running" screen regardless of whether I use the IP or mDNS address, and whether I add the 5000 port number or not.

I guess now, look at the contents of the ~/.octoprint/logs/octoprint.log as well as /var/log/syslog. Use cat nameoffile in both cases.

Hey Guru, just wanted to say thanks again for you help! I've never found the issue, but I appreciate your efforts regardless.

I've been running a different card, now that I have some time I'm backing up settings from the original and will try to restore them after a fresh build of Octopi to see if it still runs.
