Setting the pi password - resets back to default after reboot

Fresh install of Octopi version 0.18.0 I enter sudo passwd and then I enter the new password twice. Reboot raspberry pi and it wants the default password and not the one I just set before the reboot.

What did you already try to solve it?

Set the password twice and rebooted but still defaults to the normal pi password.

Have you tried running in safe mode?

No

Did running in safe mode solve the problem?

N/A

Fresh install of Octopi version 0.18.0 OctoPrint version 1.5.2

What command are you running?

Looks like sudo passwd, in which case use just passwd. By using sudo, you are changing the root password not your own (or something like that).

As @Charlie_Powell said, use just passwd or sudo passwd pi
