What is the problem?
So this is funny, because the setup has mostly worked before, but refuses to now. Whenever I print for a while and have my USB camera module connected to the Pi, either the webcam fails on it's own (hanging the webcamd service) or the serial communications get taken with it. I have boiled the issue down to the following dmesg entry:
usb usb1-port1: disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
Apparently, the Pi restarts USB randomly. This does not happen when the camera module is not connected, and also doesn't happen when the printer is not actively printing.
What did you already try to solve it?
Changing ports around, isolating USB cables to prevent possible EMI, swapping out cables, Adding powered USB hub for just the camera, both etc.
I have also tried running the camera way under spec (resolution, frames etc.) but that hasn't changed a thing.
Whenever both devices are connected and running at the same time, there is a high change the print will fail with the error. I have spent 4 days trying for a solution, the error has apparently happened to many Raspberry owners over the years, but I have not found a definitve answer as to WHY it is happening. To me it seems like the Pi just axes the USB controller when there is "too much" bandwidth used, but really the camera shouldn't be such an extreme bandwidth-consumer.
As of right now I am going to try a Pi4 I also have, seeing as it has multiple USB controllers to maybe isolate it somewhat through that. But really that's no solution, as there is no power issue and I can't understand the problem.
