Version 1.11.3 won't start

SSH in.
tried to restart service... nothing
ps -ef | grep -i octoprint | grep -i python returns nothing

last thing the log says is...
octoprint.plugins.softwareupdate - INFO - Starting update of octoprint to 1.11.3...
then "^@" repeated.

Have you tried running in safe mode?

Sorry but I can't supply that now.
I needed to use the printer so I installed 1.11.3 fresh and it worked.
