What is the problem?
Logitech Web Cam does not work when Raspberry Pi connected to printer

For some reason the Web came turns off as soon as I plug the Pi comm cable into the printer. it is streaming fine when I boot up Octoprint without printer plugged in however it shuts down as soon as I plug Pi with printer.

Camera Pi and printer worked fine together during my last print.. ... I've just had the Octopi working for a few days..

Any help..... suggestions?

In order of likeliness:

  • power-related (make sure that you have enough power), your Raspi could be sinking power over the serial cable to your printer controller
  • processing-related (make sure that this is a Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+ rather than a wimpy Zero)
  • RAM-related (again, a 1GB RAM Raspi like the list above)
  • if your printer's COM cable doesn't have internal metallic shielding or a ferrite core, then possibly something is interfering with the serial communication
  • if your printer's COM is attached via GPIO pins, then this could be a contest to see which one gets the good UART in the Raspi
