Webcam not working (noob)

I'm am new to Raspberry Pi. Followed the direction for installing Octoprint and have been using w/o a camera for a month or two. First camera didn't work so I purchased a second knock off one with extra ribbon cables and can't get it to work either. I tried to get every piece of information. Not sure how to open/et the log file.

Raspberry Pi Camera v2.1

pi@octopi:~ $ cat /etc/debian_version
9.11

Camera not found error

Checked/switch cables multiple time and purchased 2nd knock off camera - tried all the same things.

  • Is the CSI cable inserted the right way? The silvery contacts need to face away from the Ethernet connector!
  • Is the CSI cable fully seated?
  • Did you insert the CSI cable into the Display connector? It needs to be inserted into the CSI connector, which is the one closer to the Ethernet connector.
  • Is the other end of the CSI cable correctly attached to the camera board?
  • Is the camera activated in raspi-config?

Cable is inserted the right way and inserted properly. I've check it multiple times with multiple cables - I have screwed this type of thing up before so I've check it multiple times (but I'm an idiot so I might still have it wrong). I have tried the opposite way for the cables just because I was running out of things to try.

Cable is fully seated.

Ribbon cable is inserted in the right connectors.

I have enabled the camera multiple times with raspi-config.

Would posting a picture of my raspberry pi cable help?

What is the output of:

vcgencmd get_camera

I would post a pic of the camera cable connected to the PI and connected to the camera just in case. I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the camera was actually bad.

pi@octopi:~ $ vcgencmd get_camera
supported=1 detected=0
I disconnected & re-connected the camera cable - again (with the power off) and the next time I ran this - SUCCESS! I saw the camera LED blink on power up and when I moved over to my computer I had a picture.

Thanks for the help. I guess the cable wasn't seated.

edit
Just went back and tested my first camera - its dead.
