OctoPi not connecting to Monoprice Select Mini V2

What is the problem?

Just got Octoprint today and was so excited to NOT be kept awake by my printer all night since my PC is in my room.
Formatted SD and flashed OctoPi with correct settings, plugged in Pi, connected to the UI just fine.
Webcam is functional but Octoprint cannot connect to printer. When I set connection settings to "AUTO", it sends handshakes but gets no response from any Baudrate. When I tried at 115200 and selected the port, it sent a handshake but timed out and so closed the port.

What did you already try to solve it?

I tried unplugging the webcam, rebooted the system multiple times, restarted in safe mode multiple times, switched out the USB cord for a different cord, tried fiddling with the USB connection, re-flashed the SD card, and spent a good half-hour on this forum to no avail.

Have you tried running in safe mode?

yuh-huh.

Did running in safe mode solve the problem?

If it did, then why would I be writing a "get help" post?
