I have octoprint loaded and connected to my network and computer on Rasbery Pi 3.
I get the octoprint screen, but it won't connect to the printer. Monoprice 200V2. I press the connect button but always give the failed message in the setup window. I have looked at forums and they seem to talk a lot about serial ports. dmesg, and other stuff I am sadly ignorant on. I could really use some layman termed guidance.

I can't connect to our printer from Rasbery Pi3. the connect button on Octoprint leads to the failure statement: Error: Failed to autodetect serial port, please set it manually.

From the serial.log, the Serial port list is empty and I'm guessing that's not a good thing. Further debugging is going to involve using Linux commands on the RPi. I'll assume you have a Windows desktop machine so the first step is to install PuTTY. Using PuTTY, you will connect to the RPi using the username "Pi" and the password you changed.
Follow the steps in this thread which should help identify how the printer presents itself to the RPi.
Keep track of each step you take in this process and be prepared to provide those steps and as much information as you can capture here so we can help you solve this problem.
I have dmesg from the Pi and can't find anything that looks like the /dev/tty or tty that is suggested i find in the last 20 lines or so.
I tried to past the dmesg in this reply but it wouldn't let me. Any help with that?

I'm not sure why you can't post your dmesg output here. Hopefully, someone with more Discourse experience can help.
Typically, you unplug the printer, do a dmesg, plug in the printer, and do another dmesg. You can then compare the two and see the device that appears when you plug in the printer.

I'd start by properly powering the Pi with a bonafide 5V @ 2.5A power adapter.
The two dmesg outputs are identical which means to me that the printer was not recognized. The "Under-voltage detected!" messages in both outputs may or may not be causing the missing printer, but it will cause lots of other problems down the line if its not fixed.

Since you have those errors with both the printer unplugged and plugged in, I think it's safe to assume that your original PI power adapter is probably to blame. They do fail occasionally.
Some printers will (improperly) draw power through the USB cable. If you only had low voltage when the printer was plugged in, then that might be the cause.
