Tried to add USB ports - Unsuccesfully

Log into your pi via ssh then disconnect your printer, connect it again, enter dmesg | tail -n 20 and post the output here.

Alright at least it's detected correctly.

It could have something to do with this part

Is your power supply sufficient? Do you get those warnings also with no usb device connected?

If you got a decent power supply and don't get this warning without the printer connected try this

Put tape on the 5V pin - Why and how

nope - WHY can I not set / save serial connection in Octopi ?? seems 'stuck' ??? Should I try to reinstall octopi from scratch ??

reinstalled a fresh copy of Octoprint (mine was 18mnths old ) - BINGO - thanks for your help
